Laziness Long Overdue

9 Dec

Swear, I think we are addicted to playing Settlers of Catan.  It’s actually getting to the point that our games are really quick because we play it so much.  I blame my brain’s preoccupation for the shocking lack of pictures taken over the weekend!

My weekend was very relaxing.  On Saturday, I had off at Changin’ Time, but was on-call for my other job.  Around 10AM, we were trying to track down the source for all kinds of noise outside and remembered that the Steel Valley Christmas Parade was lining up in front of our house for the parade that started at 12PM.  Best seats in the house!

I see many different kinds of people walking in my neighborhood (and I will keep it at that!), but Civil War reenactors have got to be the most random! We took in the parade from our porch, drinking hot tea and waving to the peeps.

Christina’s 4th grade basketball team had their very first game of the seasons on Saturday afternoon in Monroeville.  They don’t keep score in this jumpstart league (that starts in 5th grade), however the family on the bleachers usually know how many baskets were made.  If they had been keeping score we would’ve lost but, hopefully the team got our first game jitters out and have some better luck next weekend!  I spent the rest of the day under a warm blanket, crawling out to do laundry and clean the house occasionally.

The  weather took a turn for the worse on Sunday, so Christina decided to err on the side of caution and cancel basketball practice.  We did brave the storm on Sunday afternoon to attend a Christening party for one of Christina’s cousins.  It’s always so nice to spend time catching up with family, especially with cousins who haven’t been home in a while! 🙂  Luckily, we get to see them again next weekend at the family Christmas party before they head back to Washington state.

I feel like I spent a lot of weekend quality time with Big Booty Judy, who seems to have developed a hankering for cuddles since we lost Hallie:

It was exactly the kind of weekend that I needed: lazy and low key!  I woke up this morning feeling rejuvenated!  Recharged! Ready to get all of the Christmas things done!  Honestly, I haven’t done a lick of Christmas shopping or decorating but I did pull out my decorations earlier and we are hoping to get a tree this week.

Questions Of The Day:

  • What are your goals for the week?
  •  Are you ready for the holidays or not yet?

“You have nothing to prove to anybody.”

I write a blog, so obviously I read a lot of blogs.  All kinds – food, fitness, healthy living, green living, even some mommy blogs just because I like them!  While I am hooked on reading and following the lives of these women, there is a lack of realness from bloggers: unachievable goals which are actually attained by unrealistically athletic superwomen who eat in strange, disordered ways.  I suppose if I was in their shoes, I wouldn’t feel that way.  People probably think it’s weird that I dumpster dive for coupons.  From the outside looking in, its frustrating to compare my habits and progress to theirs.  Its like watching a celebrity lose weight after they have a baby.  Two weeks and BAM!  Back to size -3.  That’s just not in the cards for me.

I am a real person, with real problems (like balancing my 2 jobs and my dogs and my family obligations and my home renovations and my laziness and being tired and trying to find healthy things to eat and oh yeah shower while all of this is going on) and I’m doing the best I can.  I have to keep reminding myself of that without the context of superfluous excuses.

So I am here to unapologetically declare that I enjoyed every bite of the pizza I ate at 9:30PM last night – when I finally had a chance to sit down and relax after a string of extremely long days.

We are entering the actual home stretch with the kitchen reno.  Finally.  After like a year.  It’s crazy that we flipped an entire house in a few months, but our own home projects linger on.  Realistically, they are the ones that are always moved to the back burner because they aren’t really effecting anything!  Here is what my kitchen looked like a few days ago:

KitchenRenoNov

You may see this as chaos.  I get that.  But, I see this as PROGRESSSSSS!!!!!!  So yeah.  I literally walked away from what I was doing and took this picture.  Realness. Since this photo was taken, the cabinet doors have dried and rehung (they look awesome!), the dishes have been done (duh), and the island has been cleared of all my on-call paperwork/binders/phone.    Honestly, all we need to do is stain and rehang the pantry doors, throw on some baseboard, caulk, and replace the countertops.  So…..friggin……close.

We obviously didn’t get much cooking done over the weekend in this hullabloo, though.  I did manage to concoct this monstrosity:

StuffedSweetPotato

A buffalo chicken stuffed sweet potato.  It was….not good.  I should’ve gone with BBQ sauce, but changed my mind at the last minute.  So for future reference, not a good combo.

And laundromat breakfasts have been looking like this:

oatmealfail

Half-ass cooked oats with almonds, cinnamon, stevia, and frozen blueberries.  Shockingly not as bad as it looks.

So you see…I could never be a celeb-status healthy living blogger.  Because I am real person who hasn’t been to the gym since Friday, takes my time getting projects done, struggles to find clean eats and vegs out with delicious white pizza and MNF.  I am also a fucking rockstar who rolled out of bed this morning, got coffee, hurried to the rental to bundle about 50 lbs. of landscaping mess to beat the garbage truck,  washed the car, VOTED, made it home in time to put our own garbage out, did the dishes, made myself some egg whites and turkey bacon, did 2 loads of laundry, AND managed to catch half an episode of Teen Mom 3 on DVR before work.  I think I would prefer my real life to a contextualized pedestal that I have to create and never fall from.  🙂

Laundromat Lunch

18 Dec

This week, my business achieved a huge milestone!  (Damn you, Facebook, for making that sound so cheesy.)  We moved into our new location.  It took many many weeks of constant toil, but we did it.  We now have room to run our business and plenty of room to grow.  I feel like the luckiest girl in the world right now!

Saturday marked our official grand opening, which we celebrated with a party at the new facility.

ChanginTime

That means Monday was our first official day of “normal” work.  It was both exhilarating and anticlimactic.  It’s so hectic right now between the puppies and launching this expansion that I have barely cooked a substantial meal in weeks.  Call me crazy, but the thing I’m most excited about right now is having a schedule.  Knowing when and where I need to be helps me get back into the habit of cooking all three meals instead of depending on “grabbing a quick bite.”

Today, for lunch I made broccoli bites from Stacy’s Snacks

What You Will Need:

16 oz. broccoli florets (fresh or frozen will work), with the liquid squeezed out
1 c. bread crumbs (I use Panko)
3 eggs
1 1/2 c. shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

Lucky for me, I live just around the block from where I work.  Since we are currently whelping puppies, we have to check in every hour.  Unless it is unbearably cold or wet outside, I try to walk home on these breaks.

I’m learning to love my little walk, even when it looks like this outside:

So, this is the first of what I’m sure will be a long series of laundromat lunches.

I had plenty left over and we reheated them for dinner.
